HR-V Review The Honda HR-V is the brand's smallest and most affordable SUV. It's also one of the bestselling small crossovers in the U.S. To fend off a long list of impressive new competitors, Honda completely redesigned the HR-V last year, improving its design, interior space, safety, and overall driving experience. HR-V's new European-inspired styling is handsome and upscale. With more standard horsepower than the Hyundai Kona or Nissan Kicks, it also delivers zippy performance around town. But it's the HR-V's lively handling and smooth ride that impress the most. Thanks to a sophisticated independent rear suspension borrowed from the larger Honda CR-V, it's very enjoyable to drive. 

We're also impressed with the HR-V's build quality and the clean, sporty design of its spacious interior. The cabin is simple and inviting, but feels modern and high-tech, with a digital instrument display and a large touchscreen. Its curvy double-decker center console looks great and offers plenty of storage. The front seats are firm, well-shaped, and supportive, and the HR-V's rear seat is one of the most spacious in its class. Cargo space is abundant, and the HR-V's safety ratings are the highest possible.

What is the Interior Like in the 2024 HR-V?

The Honda HR-V's cabin is similar to the Civic's interior with sleek design, simple ergonomics, 
and a cool honeycomb trim that sweeps across the dash. There are a few new touches exclusive to the HR-V, including a swoopy two-tiered center console, which looks great and has a ton of storage. Honda is known for its quality, and the fit and finish of the HR-V's interior is top-notch. Honda is also known for its packaging, and the HR-V comfortably seats five.

2024 HR-V Infotainment, Connectivity, and Convenience Features.

Over the past couple of years, Honda has improved its infotainment system. The 2024 HR-V's system is easy to use, quick to respond, and packed with features. The LX and Sport models have a standard 7-inch touchscreen with power/volume and tuning/selection knobs. A row of buttons lets users skip music tracks, navigate the audio menu, and select among phone, radio, Bluetooth, and USB media. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the lineup. The EX-L model gets a 9-inch touchscreen with a volume knob and large icons. Mode selections are at the bottom of the touchscreen, and, in a nice touch, there's a finger rest to steady your hand while operating the unit.

How does the 2024 HR-V Handle on the Road?
The 2024 Honda HR-V is powered by a 158-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The combination is responsive and refined. The HR-V has more standard horsepower than its competitors. Honda has also done a good job of tuning the CVT. Overall, the HR-V is quick enough for most buyers in this class. It has a satisfying punch off the line when you need it, and it's zippy around town.

We're also impressed with the HR-V's ride and handling. Much like the larger Honda CR-V, 
the HR-V's comfortable ride smooths out rough roads but doesn't feel overly soft. It's pleasantly sporty, with precise steering, strong brakes, and responsive handling, especially when equipped with the all-wheel-drive system.

What Safety Features are Available in 
the 2024 HR-V?

All HR-V models get the Honda Sensing suite of active safety and driver-assist technologies, which includes a collision-mitigation braking system, forward-collision warning, and a road-departure mitigation system. A single-camera system provides a 100-degree field of view. Honda says its latest automatic emergency braking system identifies pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles more quickly and accurately.

Honda Sensing also has Traffic Jam Assist, which makes the car's standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist systems feel more natural and less intrusive. The Sport and EX-L trims feature blind-spot warning. You'll find many of the same safety features in other compact SUVs, but usually in an upper trim level.
